Mission Statement:

The Amenia Free Library Association will be the center for information services within the Town of Amenia. We will endeavor to meet the needs of our patrons by providing books, media, reference resources, and a public meeting place. Highly trained and committed employees, responsive to our patrons’ needs, will be the cornerstones of our success.


The Amenia Free Library is located between Route 22 and Route 343, the third building on the left of the M&T Bank by the light. Parking is available by the side of the building.

About the Library:

The library was opened in 1919. The first by-laws were adopted on May 22, 1919 and the library was officially named the Amenia Free Library Association.

On November 30, 1935, the library signed a lease with the First Presbyterian Church of Amenia, which granted the library to use of the present parcel of the land for one dollar a year (the parcel was puchased by the library in 2014).

The present library building was built on this land with WPA (Works Progress Administration) funds, which houses rare historical books. We are here to encourage people of all ages to enjoy reading and learning.

Board of Trustees:

Kevin Boyd, Robert Brady, Virginia Eschbach, Amanda Forbes, Alan Gamble (President), Linda Gregory, Charlotte Murphy, David Stanford and Mary Ann Wilkens.

Board of Trustees meets on the second Monday of every month at 7:00pm, except for August and December, and are open to the public.
